WELCOME TO TRAVELING HOMESTEAD PROJECT

Traveling Homestead Project is an organization all about helping you manifest your dreams and travel the world–no matter who you are.

THP is a queer run initiative founded by a real-life van lifer. I aim to make nomadic living a sustainable option for young people with seemingly few options. I let you in on tips to overcome major roadblocks and build confidence in taking control of your life–all while helping you live more sustainably!

Our content is centered around what sustainable travel looks like and how to get you living your dreams. From growing food in a van to affording a van in the first place. From eating well on a low budget, to making your own medicines. And from destroying capitalism to nourishing your mind, body, and soul.

Living in a Van Under the Northern Lights

WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE VAN LIFE IS LIKE?

Living the van life is the dream for many young people. But is there more than meets the eye?

In my article, Living in a Van, I outline the basics of van life culture. The roots of the movement, van life today, culture, community, and questions people have going into the lifestyle. I also give you an abundance of people, resources, and information if you want to get involved with the van life community.

Van life is magic, and it’s also hard work. Even if it’s not as glamorous as you might think at times, it can be better than you imagine, too. It is a unique and liberating way of life.

HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY LIVING IN A VAN?

It’s the ultimate van life question. Before hitting the road, every van lifer has wondered how they will fuel their nomadic lifestyle.

Therefore, I have created this guide to making money while living in a van. In the article, I have outlined the detailed research I have done into nomadic working options. Including side gigs, service jobs, filler work, and careers.

Money is one of the biggest factors preventing people from pursuing their nomadic dreams. That is why it was so important to me to make this guide. I love my readers and want them to follow their dreams.

If money is getting in your way of living the van life, go check out this article. I’m sure it has something for you!

SAVANNAH MARY MCTAGUE: A DEDICATION

On November 20, 2019, my little sister, Savannah, fell off of Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, Utah, and died.

Sav was nineteen years old but had experienced more life than most people her age. When she was seventeen, she got on a train and left our little hometown in Maine. She backpacked and traveled through California, Oregon, and Washington; worked in Glacier and Zion National Park; and spent a few months in Australia.

Her adventurous spirit was planning to continue traveling around the world. In lieu of her plans, I hope that her memory will serve to inspire many young people to take charge of their lives like she did.
